12-Year-Old Boy Recovering After Accidentally Shooting Himself in Arm

Police could not confirm if the boy's parents were Oakland police officers.

By Bay City News—

A 12-year-old boy in Danville is recovering after he accidentally shot himself in the arm earlier this week, a police lieutenant said today.

The shooting happened at a Danville home around 4:50 p.m. on Tuesday, according to Danville police Lt. Allan Shields.

Shields declined to disclose the approximate location of the home in the interest of protecting the boy's identity. He also said he could not confirm media reports that the boy's parents are Oakland police officers.

"The employment of the parents doesn't have any investigative bearing on the case," Shields said. The lieutenant declined to say how the boy accessed the gun or to whom it belonged.

He said, however, that police have investigated "all aspects of the incident...including whether the guns were properly stored." The boy was taken to Children's Hospital Oakland for treatment and released later the same day, Shields said.

An Oakland police spokeswoman could not immediately be reached for comment.
