Out & About: Blue Star Moms Fund-raiser to Support Our Troops

The Blue Star Moms fund-raiser at Forli restaurant was a patriotic success. Thank you to all who came and showed their support!

Welcome to Out & About!

On this blog I'll cover events and happenings in and around Danville — the places and many faces that make Danville such a wonderful place, a town of people that love community and their veterans.

For this reason, my first blog starts with the red, white and true blue hearts of the very patriotic local Blue Star Moms.

On Sunday, they held a "Support Our Troops" fund-raiser at . The event was a heart warming and patriotic success.

Peggy Conklin (Local Chapter President Blue Star Moms) was a kind hostess that welcomed all with appreciation. Plus, Russ Belleci, owner of Forli was a gracious host. Additional supporters were Ronald L. Lowe (Sentinels of Freedom Scholarship Foundation), John G. Reese and Bill Green (Vietnam Veterans of Diablo Valley). Last but most of all not least, was the Honorable Mayor Karen Stepper showing her love and support of our troops and their moms.

We all ate, drank, and enjoyed the songs by a few attendees who braved the microphone, including restaurant owner and crooner, Belleci.

It was a wonderful event, with love for our country, our troops, and the Blue Star Moms. Truly, only a mother's heart for their child serving in the armed forces could have given birth to such an organization.

Blue Star Moms was founded 69 years ago. According to Blue Star Moms.org: On January 22, 1942, the Flint News Advertiser printed a coupon asking mothers of servicemen to return the coupon after filling it out. On February 1, some 300 mothers met in the Durant Hotel in Flint Michigan. Captain George H. Maines, who had conceived the idea for this group, acted as the chair of this first meeting. After receiving over 1,000 responses from the ad, it was decided to form a permanent organization.

According to the website, "Blue Star Moms is open to mothers and fathers who have or have had children serving in the United States Armed Forces. We also have associate memberships for anyone who wants to support our military and its veterans.”

If you are interested in finding out more about the organization, or becoming a member, please visit www.BlueStarMoms.org.

David et al: Here's what the FAA said: "Radar replays show an F18 flew right over DanvilleRead More northeast-bound at 3,500 feet at exactly 10:45, and then started to climb, which would create more noise as the pilot applied more engine power."
