INSTALLATION STATION Danville Women's Club

Installation Station! As we end the month of June it's not just for dads and grads. But for the installation of new officers for the 2013 season of fund raising for the Danville Women's Club

As we end June, it wasn’t without a stopover at Installation Station. June is not only for Grads and Dad’s, but it seems to be a month for the installation of the 2012-2013 organizational officers. In this case, it was female officers with the Danville Women’s Club and as follows, President-Barbara Chavez, 1st VP of Programs Beverly Walsh & Rosalia Achziger, 2nd VP of Memberships-Ann Smilanich. 3rd VP of Hospitality-Doral Allen, Recording Secretary-Jane Felicellci, Corresponding Secretary-Nancy Francis, Treasurer-Mary Wallace, Auditor-Winnie Boyle, Parliamentarian-Barbara Matheney, First Year Director- Barbara Matheney, 2nd Year Directory-Virginia Macky, and 3rd Year Director-Kathleen Stevens. It was nice to see all these dedicated women take their places in the volunteer ranks, no closed ranks here, but they are close in heart of what they do for the community.

For example, the “Fashionable Style of Giving” their annual fashion show raised $2,200 for Hospice of the East Bay. The women of the club gathered volunteers and called out for sponsors and donations. The show was organized and officiated by Darlene Feylor with clothes donated by Chico’s and store manager, Dee Borgeson, who prepped and dressed us. We even had a special guest model, former Mayor of Danville Candace Andersen, who successfully won her bid for District ll Supervisor. It was a great event, but all that would have not been possible without the generosity, donations, and support of our local business community.

They are as follows: Crow Canyon Country Club, Fresh & Easy, Michael Brandon Salon & Spa, Forbes Mill Steak House, Skin Savvy by Jennifer Cross, Uncle Wang’s,  Jero’l Salon & Day Spa by Marilyn, and Susan Edwards and Lori McDonald, Brass Door, Elegant Clutter,  Jolie Salon & Spa by Barb Hughes, Elite MD, Pure Essence, Esin Restaurant, Fringe Hair Salon by Grace Kim, Luna, Loca, Rakestraw Books, Amici’s, Amber Bistro, Danville Chocolates, Games Unlimited, What’s In Store, East Bay Flower, Basil Leaf Café,  Piatti Restaurant, Strizzis, Alamo Ace Hardware, Wooden Gate Quilts, Curves, Primo’s, Lunardi’s, Cottage Jewel, Discover Danville, Miso Lino, Richards, Apricot Lane Boutique, Sloat Garden Center, Bridges, Roti 8 Rotisserie & Bar, Such Savvy Style, Livery Nails, Clementine’s, Celebrating Grace, Sprouts, Maria Maria, and Michael Brandon Salon & Spa by Tamara RN abd Monica Deacon.

There’s a saying, “How many people does it take to make a village?” Well, now we know how many businesses in a village it takes to lift up a community. We sincerely thank all who contributed to help us raise awareness and funds for the Hospice of the East Bay. Kathy Kavanagh graciously and gratefully received a check from Club President, Barbara Chavez, a check that would go very far in reaching out to so many.

As I was asked to give the dedication for Father’s Day, it was a true reminder of how important donations are, as my own father received the care of Hospice when he wanted to be home with family as he neared and faced the end of his life from cancer. Without the help of Hospice he would not have been able to fulfill is last wish of not to be hospitalized, but to be in the comfort of his own home surrounded by loved ones.

Finally, as we take a break to enjoy the “fun in the sun” of summer, we fall back on all the hard work, and all that it accomplished for community. Collectively our efforts and our hearts to volunteer helped to make a good organization accomplish great things. We also thank the local business community for their generous support. Mission accomplished, we may rest knowing we have made it to June’s “Installation Station” and have all our officers on board, ready for our destination of a new season and reason for why we do what we do as the Danville Women’s Club. They truly share in the heart of my personal volunteering mantra of “Together We’re The Unity In Community.”
