Father Frank’s Kids
Did you ever wonder what $30.00 a month could do for a child? Well if you’re one of Father Frank’s kids, it would change your life forever. It would mean safety, love, hope, care, food, shelter and education or vocation. Father Frank’s mission has now reached out to ten different countries. His orphanages care for children, who are abandoned or orphaned. They are given a way out of poverty and a fair chance at reaching their potential as a human being!
It started back in 1995 when Father Frank Colacicco, was graciously accepted into residency at Saint Isidore's Church. In 1996, a parishioner had taken Father Frank to the annual conference at Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos (Our Little Brothers and Sisters). The NPH organization was founded in 1954, to support orphanages in Latin America. At the conference, fate would have him sitting next to Sister Phyllis Kelleher, she persuaded him to return to St. Isidore's and rally support for her children in Nicaragua. After his return he gave a compelling homily that moved Tori and Ann Ferrante, to persuade the Italian Catholic Federation to collect and donate clothing and other goods. Since Tori Ferrante was in the shipping business he arranged the shipment of the goods. Thus was the start of Father Frank's Kids. http://www.FatherFranksKids.org
Fast forward and 16 years later, the mission is still as urgent and compelling at it was at its inception. For In truth, there is no greater rejection in life then as a child to be abandoned by a parent/s, to feel unwanted, unloved and dumped in the streets and literally the gutters of life. These children are hungry, cold and at high risk of physical harm, and debase moral crimes.
On the other hand, there is no greater loss for a child when they lose one or both parents. Father Franks Orphanage’s “provide shelter, food, clothing, health-care and education in a loving Christian family environment.” They house children ranging in age from new born through high school.
In addition, the boys and girls are given structure and most of all they are raised in a loving, secure environment, taught sharing, work and responsibility. The children are provided an education up the secondary level. They are encouraged to pursue either a trade/vocation or higher education, and some rise up to receive scholarships to attend college.
Today, Father Frank's Kids provides support to the orphanages run by Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (NPH), in Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Bolivia, and Peru.
Father Frank's Kids is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization, run solely by volunteers and without administrative overhead. That being said, we are entering the 4th quarter of the year 2012. This is a time when some of us begin to contemplate our end of year donations. Have you considered the cost of 10 cups of a latte or gourmet cup of coffee? But, for about the same cost for $30.00 a month, you could pour a strong cup of humanity and donate through a sponsorship of an abandoned and orphaned child.
Imagine yourself during the coming Holidays, sitting at the dinner table counting your blessings. Then smiling with a kind and warm heart and reflecting on how you and your family have shared that blessing with a child that not was so fortunate. When you go to write your donation check during this last quarter of 2012, maybe you may see your way to a 501C3 donation for Father Frank’s Kid’s.
In closing, you may see every day of every month and every year, how his abandoned and orphaned kids directly benefits from your kindness. To help save just one human being’s life from poverty is a noble cause. But to support and invest in their potential represents the best gift of all, for it gives back to the good of our humanity.
