Danville Women’s Club President Inducted GFWC District President

GFWC Danville women’s Club held their 56th Annual Convention in Pleasanton. In that, Danville Women's Club, President Barbara Chavez is inducted Mt. Diablo District President.

On the third week of April, The California Federation of Women’s Clubs, under the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) Mount Diablo District, held their 56th Annual Convention event at the Sheraton Hotel in Pleasanton.

What made this event so impressive was how it personified the strength of women in the district communities. In attendance we had over 20 towns and cities representing more than 1,200 members. The GFWC began in 1890 in New York City and the Danville Women’s Club, formerly “The Mother’s Club," was founded 101 years ago in 1911. It joined the GFWC in 1939.

What made this event auspicious for 2012 is that our very own Danville Women’s Club President Barbara Chavez was inducted as the new GFWC Mt. Diablo District President. The many awards we received for the fundraising accomplishments along with the other chapters, as our district efforts honor many deserving individuals, further highlighted it. However, a special individual, our guest speaker Mike Conklin, Founder of Sentinels of Freedom, also honored us.

Fundraising is never easy and in tougher economic times its challenge is greater as people’s needs are greater, but we remember that giving a little adds up to a lot, and help would not be there if we gave nothing at all. After all, part of fundraising is about raising awareness with events.

The GFWC Danville Women’s Club is doing just that with their Annual Spring Luncheon and Fashion Show to benefit Hospice of The East Bay. This fashionable event will be held Thursday, May 10, at the Crow Canyon Country Club at 711 Silver Lake Drive in Danville.

Social time begins at 11:30 a.m. and lunch begins at noon. Chico’s of Danville we will be modeling the spring fashions.

This year we have a special guest model, our very own Honorable Mayor of Danville, Candace Andersen. Don’t miss out on this fashionable fund raising fun, tickets are $40. For ticket information please contact Danville Women’s Club President, Barbara Chavez at 925-838-0347, email

Thank you for this post. As a parent of two at SRVHS and one at Stone Valley Middle School thisRead More whole thing concerns me greatly. I just have not had the time to look into it. My Junior at SRVHS is in the guinea pig class for the new curriculum. The new curriculum started with AP Biology this year and it has been a disappointment. Parents, including myself, really need to educate ourselves on this. I thought this was a State program not a Fed program. Great...
