2012 Relay for Life Cancer Survivor Shirts Have Arrived; Plus More RLF Event Details

We have a "party going on" at the American Cancer Society's Danville Relay for Life event the weekend of July 28 and 29 on the football field at San Ramon Valley High School.

If you are a Cancer Survivor, the party starts for you at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning with a free continental breakfast in our Survivor area. You will be able to meet with other Cancer Survivors in our community. Our Survivor Chairperson Lenise Gibson has a wonderful day planned for you. She will be handing out bags filled with surprises. You will be able to enter a free drawing for a Kindle. Since Cancer Survivors are our VIPs you will take the first lap as we celebrate YOU with your Purple Survivor shirt. We will have pens ready so you can mark in the cupcake how long you have been a Survivor.

If you are interested in starting a team or just want to sign up as an individual to honor a loved one lost to cancer or celebrate a friend or family member who is a survivor of cancer this party is for you too. Mike Vincent is our amazing Entertainment Chair. He will be playing oldies/goodies and new music to motivate everyone when they are walking around the field. He has lined up bands, zumba and yoga demonstrations.

Stop by our Fight Back booth headed by our chair Bruce Bogart to learn about cancer and get materials to help you FIGHT BACK against cancer. He has boxcar races planned and sticking with our Hooray for Hollywood theme we have a Murder/Mystery who done it to work on throughout the day/night.

If you have been growing your hair we have a group of local Danville stylists that will be cutting it for wigs for cancer patients.

Don't forget to get a Luminaria bag at that tent to decorate for a friend or family member you are honoring or remembering. We have volunteers ready to help you with them.

Then grilled burgers and hot dogs, plus salads, for dinner.

At dusk we will play a slide show of friends and family members we are honoring and remembering thanks to our chairs Rob & Adrienne Riccio. We will light the Luminaria bags and they will be lining the track all night until the early morning to guide your way. Our Luminaria Chair and Cancer Survivor Miguel Martinez will tell you his Cancer Survivor story prior to all of us walking the track after the Luminaria Ceremony. You will want to purchase a lighted helium balloon from The Amazing Race team to carry with you when you take the lap. We will have glow bracelets for everyone too.

Midnight pizza, 2 a.m. movie night, pajama lap, and a '50s dance party will happen the rest of the evening.

Then bagels and coffee on Sunday morning.
