Video: Danville's Cape-Crusading Mom Featured on NBC

Danville's Barbara Casados might not be a sewing expert, but what she can sew is making children smile.

In an inspirational story, NBC Bay Area featured Danville's Barbara Casados last week, who is helping sick kids all over the country in a very unique way.

Casados can't sew shirts or pants, but she can sew one thing — capes. Yes, Superhero capes.

It started with her young son, who is autistic. Dressing him every day became a battle, until she put a cape around his back. Then she started making capes for her son's friends and Casados had started a small superhero cape-making business.

Then a friend gave Casados a list of sick kids who might want capes. So she made capes for all the kids. When she recieved photos of the happy kids with her capes on their back, she stopped the business and focused solely on kids in need of a smile.

She has now sewed more than 500 capes.

"They wear the capes and they feel brave," Casados told NBC Bay Area. "It gives them that sense that it's going to be OK, it's their blanky but it's a cool blanky."
