You can lose weight and plump up your bank account at the same time in a team weight-loss contest sponsored by some local companies.
The competition, called the Biggest Winner Tri-Valley, is accepting sign-ups through Jan. 21 for the six-week challenge.
Contestants must be at least 18 years old and compete in two-person teams. The team that loses the greatest percentage of body weight over the six-week period will receive $1,500 in cash and prizes.
Individuals must have their weight recorded by a staff member at Crunch Fitness in Blackhawk between Jan. 19 and Jan. 22.
Contestants will also be weighed between Feb. 9 and Feb. 12 as well as between March 1 and March 4, when the contest ends.
The winners are announced on March 6.
The entry fee is $99 per person. Entrants receive a 6-week membership to Crunch Fitness as well as a four-week nutrition program from 28 Days to Health.
Michael Parry, the contest co-ordinator, said the weight loss challenge is a great way for people to start the new year off right by eating well and living a healthy lifestyle.
"It provides accountability and motivation," said Parry, who is a marathoner and Ironman triathlete. "A good exercise and nutrition program can help you lead a clean, healthly life. You feel better and you look better."
Patch will be following the contest and hopes to profile local contestants willing to share their stories and inspire others through blogs, videos and stories.
