Over the summer, six Danville girls wanted to do something that would have an impact on people that reached far beyond their hometown borders.
So the Green Valley Elementary School students — Emme Chu, Sydney Chu, Megan McCormac, Kaylan McCormac, Ella Warburg and Honor Warburg — collected recyclables for the Semper Fi Foundation.
The foundation, setup by Denise Corral — the mother of Lance Cpl. Joshua "Chachi" Corral, who died in Afghanistan last year — raises awareness of the sacrifice Marines and their families make for the United States.

After months of collecting bottles and cans, the girls collected a total of $695 for the Semper Fi Foundation.
Sherman Chu, the father of Emme and Sydney said, "Many (Patch) readers were part of the success of the program so thank you."
