Fallen Danville Marine 'Chachi' to be Memorialized Saturday

On Saturday, a memorial to Danville's fallen Marine, LCpl Joshua "Chachi" Corral, will be dedicated in front of the Veterans Memorial Building.

Corral, a former grad nicknamed "Chachi," died Nov. 18, 2011, during combat operations in Afghanistan. He was a machine gunner assigned to the 3rd Battalion. His personal awards include the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Medal.

The memorial will be a battlefield cross, which is a pair of boots, a rifle, and a helmet. Additionally, there will be two plaques, one for "Chachi" and one explaining the battlefield cross.

The Semper Fi Foundation, Town of Danville, and Corral family and friends are presenting the memorial. The dedication ceremony begins at 10 a.m.

Immediately following the dedication, the commemoration continues at the Danville Day on the Green in celebration of Chachi at the Danville Community Center. It will include several local culinary food and beverages vendors, live music, presentations, and children’s activities.
