Alamo Couple Come in Second on 'The Amazing Race'

East Bay couple Jeremy Cline and Sandy Draghi survived the relationship challenge of competing on CBS reality TV show.

East Bay natives Jeremy Cline and Sandy Draghi were thrilled to be part of Season 19 of the iconic TV series The Amazing Race. In , they said competing as a team on the show, after dating just six months, would give them a chance to learn new things about each other and how to be together as a couple.

Alas, their journey to a new phase in their relationship didn't translate into the No. 1 spot and a $1 million prize. On the season finale Sunday night, audiences saw the couple come in second, behind Cindy Chiang and Ernie Halvorsen, an engaged couple from Chicago.

The finale of the globe-trotting series brought the final three couples to Atlanta, where Cline and Draghi failed to locate "the former residence known as The Dump." Anyone would have needed to know their Gone with the Wind trivia to get this one right: as in really know it.

The Dump is Margaret Mitchell's not-very-nice nickname for the apartment where she wrote her famous Civil War-era bestseller. Chiang and Halvorsen figured out the reference. Clinie and Draghi didn't. Instead of researching the clue online or by phone, Cline and Draghi asked someone in a truck who sent them to a furniture store called The Dump.

The couple returned home from The Amazing Race adventure in September and said the experience was thrilling and well worth it.

Draghi was born and raised in Livermore and works as a nurse practitioner.

A commercial real estate broker, Cline is a third generation East Bay native. He was born in Concord and raised in Castro Valley. He has lived in Danville and Alamo for the past seven years.

Cline said the show was  “one of the most exciting things he has ever done,” and they both said they were looking forward to sharing their journey with the community.
