BART UPDATE: Oakland Coliseum Station Re-Opens…

How Much is Your PG&E Bill This Month?

Find out how to save 20 percent on your PG&E bill.

Luckily in the Bay Area most months of the year we rip open the PG&E bill and pay it without much thought.

Not so in my house yesterday, as the $377.41 whopper sits on my desk in all of its fat almost-$400 ridiculousness, up more than $100 from last month.

While our 1960s three-bedroom one-story ranch hasn't had any fancy weatherizing done to it, we did get new windows and a sliding glass door put in, along with updated appliances, but apparently that's not enough to keep our costs down when the temperatures drop.

So I logged on to PG&E's online gas tracker, a cool tool you can use to see whether you can reduce your consumption enough to get a 20 percent credit on your bill.

I wish I had checked out this deal earlier — it's ending in 23 days — but there's still time left.

Just enter your account number and zip code on the site (you need to have a SmartMeter), and you'll get a graphic showing you where your therms are at during the current billing period.

A term is a unit of energy that measures natural gas. Roughly, according to PG&E one therm runs a central gas furnace for 1.8 hours. If we get ours down from in-the-red 2.99 to 2.43 therms we'll qualify for partial credit.

Being the extremely competitive person I am, I say GAME ON, PG&E. I'm getting those therms down even more to get that 20 percent discount on my February or March bill.

PG&E offers a program called CARE that gives a monthly discount to qualifying families. There's also one-time help, or you can balance out your payments over the year to avoid the unpleasant December surprise.

Post what your bill is this month in the comments, and we'll enter you into a drawing for a Patch snuggie to keep you warm while you turn down your thermostat.

Several, perhaps many researchers, profess to be on the cusp of Zero Point Energy, also known incorrectly and somewhat misleadingly as "Free Energy." These devices are claimed by their inventors to tap into and harvest the density energy of vacuum space. Generically referred to as "Over Unity" devices, they theoretically produce more energy than they consume to build and run. It seems to be time to call them forward...in a scientifically responsible public demonstration. Either these devices exist or they do not. Either they are merely part of the alternative media energy mythology narrative or they are real. If they do exist, society needs to enable their proliferation in some palpable manner to carefully phase out our dependence on fossil fuels. http://tinyurl.com/87n23fx Industries can remake themselves. Film was replaced with digital and we survived. Vacuum tubes replaced by microchips and we survived and the list goes on and on. Let's dare to sponsor an international scientific challenge by the likes of NASA, LLNL, Sandia, Stanford, UCB, to hold a local public demonstration of such devices locally, in the SF Bay Area, maybe even right here in energy research's back yard, Livermore, Ca.

My reading and research indicates zero point energy device inventors are a little further along than you may realize. In order to participate in a demonstration fair, they will need intellectual property protection and high security, but there are probably 1% that are "for-real" and that is an enormous plus. It only takes one, after all to register its imprimatur and totally redirect energy and civilization. May I refer your kind attention to the following reference materials: (a) Terra Verde Breakthrough Energy Discussion: Sterling Allan of the New Energy Congress and Mark Dansie of Infinergy discuss unconventional energy technologies, such as over-unity devices, magnet motors, cold fusion, vortex, zero-point and advanced hydrogen. http://www.kpfa.org/archives/20121221-Fri1300.m3u (b) Zurich Conference: Brian O'Leary on Free Energy, 12 July 2012 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=178TJujE5oY&sns=em (c) David Adair's Story http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLB83DE9EAAE39EB2B

Where's our Congress in open, transparent, public hearings in all this? Energy From Space: I.e., it’s not just carbon emissions. And the industrial age isn’t the only, or even the principal cause. Our planet is changing, along with the solar system: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yy3YJBOw_o&sns=em I share the concerns of the author, it's not a good thing to be playing God,.... they don't seem to know really what they are doing and they are engaged in an international - global effort without talking and coordinating with the public in any open, transparent, forthright manner. Where's our Congress in public hearings? A repost from Exopermaculture http://tinyurl.com/awsndhg
