Upcycle Your Used Bicycle to a Local Cause

Have a bike that isn't getting much use? Clean our your garage and pass your bicycle onto someone who needs it.

Adopt a Family Bikes, a generous Danville-based program that provides bicycles for the less privileged, needs your bikes.

The local nonprofit is active during the holidays and is entering their 11th season accepting used bikes that their volunteers clean, repair and check for safety before donating. The bicycles are given out to numerous non profits and school children in Richmond (identified by their teachers as unlikely to receive a holiday gift).

Last year the organization distributed 373 bikes, each with a helmet and some with locks.

They will be accepting bikes at 500 La Gonda Way (corner of El Cerro) Saturday, Nov. 16 from 10 to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 12 to 4 p.m.  Bikes will be accepted each week thru Dec. 8th but the organization is asking for the bikes sooner rather than later.

If you don't have a bike to donate, volunteers of all ages and skills levels are needed to clean and repair bikes, starting as early as Nov. 23rd.

Additional shop hours will be posted on our website at www.adoptafamilybikes.org.

Since 2002, the AAFB Program has supplied over 2,000 bikes, for kids and adults alike, all in excellent mechanical working condition.
