Family Freebies: St. Patrick's Day, Movie Night and Crafts

Some free activities for those in the Tri-Valley and beyond.

It’s time again for some exciting activities for the whole family, including St. Patrick’s Day themed events, all at a price that’s non-existent—free!

Looking for a Friday movie night?  Look no further than Friday, March 16, as the encourages your child to bring a teddy bear, a blanket, and even dinner to enjoy a picnic inside the library and the movie “Yogi Bear.”  The festivities start at 6 p.m., a time when the library is normally closed to patrons.

It’s not St. Patrick’s Day in the Tri-Valley unless you head to Civic Park in Dublin on March 17 or 18 for the annual free celebration. Filled with arts and crafts, free entertainment, and even the parade that takes place at 9 p.m. on March 17. To learn more about the planned activities, visit http://www.dublinstpats.com.

On St. Patrick’s Day, the is having a Science-filled afternoon brought to you by Mad Science. At 2 p.m., scientists from Mad Science will delight youngsters with the principles of air and pressures. This is a free event, but since there are limited seats, get there at 1:30 p.m. to get your “ticket”.

has more free crafts for children on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. On March 17, your child can make a shamrock rainbow from ribbons or streamers. On March 24, the first Saturday in spring, means that children will make a spring flower basket.

Have a train fanatic? The amazing train layout near is a hidden gem!  We have been heading to this spot for more than five years now, and they are rarely open for non-members, especially on weekends.  From 11 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., enthusiasts young and old can watch an amazing display of train layouts, even complete with a thunderstorm set to music on the half hour. 

Is your child a fan of the “Geronimo Stilton” books? If so, you are not to miss the scavenger hunt at the on Wednesday, March 21 at 6 p.m. We’ll be there ready for an adventure!

And lastly, on Wednesday, March 28 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., the holds family reading time, for children three and up. Join librarians for songs, games and stories.
