Presents
I Have Needs Too: Supporting the Siblings of Children with Special Needs
Thursday, November 14, 2012, 7-9 PM
Iron Horse Middle School MPR, 12601 Alcosta Blvd., San Ramon
When one child has physical, developmental or behavioral challenges, it affects everyone in the family. The other children have to accommodate their brother or sister's special needs, cope with less time and attention from their parents and deal with the social impact of being related to someone who is "different". Join Elizabeth Batson, MA, LMFT, who will talk about how parents can use the experience of having a child with special needs to help their typically developing children become resilient and caring people.
Topics include:
- Five things your children want you to know
- The secret to talking about feelings
- Appropriateroles and responsibilities
- Dealing with friends and strangers
- Supporting a positive relationship between siblings
