Week In Review: Skis, Dogs and Flames

Some of the stories that made news this past week in the Danville and Alamo areas.

Ski sale: The 33rd annual Ski and Snowboard swap got under way at San Ramon Valley High this weekend. More than 2,500 people are expected to browse through the used and new snow-related equipment displayed by individual and companies. The event is expected to raise $45,000 for the high school.

Football playoffs: Monte Vista High's football team held on to defeat Foothill High, 12-7, on Friday night. The win gave the Mustangs a berth in the playoffs for the 10th straight season. The loss eliminated Foothill from the playoffs for the first time in 19 years. San Ramon Valley High defeated Livermore High, 35-20, to improve its overall record to 7-2 as it also prepares for post-season action.

Dog park closed: The dog park at Hap Magee Ranch Park was abruptly closed on Wednesday after city officials learned a dog that had visited there had come down with canine parvovirus. City workers spent Thursday and Friday cleaning and sterilizing the facility. The park was reopened on Saturday.

Grass fire: Firefighters quickly extinguished a 3.5-acre grass fire near Blackhawk on Tuesday night. The blaze was off Lawrence Road. No structures were damaged. One firefighter was injured. The fire happened while 25 mile per hour winds were blowing and a red flag alert was in effect.
