Week In Review: Quakes, Closings and Sunshine

Some of the stories that made headlines in Danville this past week.

Powerful Outage: More than 5,600 customers lost electricity in Danville and Alamo on Saturday evening after a downed power line caused a power outage. The blackout began about 5:45 p.m. By 8:30 p.m., all but 194 customers had their power restored.

Earthquake Rocks Region: A 3.2 earthquake rattled the Blackhawk area at 3:44 p.m. Wednesday. The tremor was centered 3 miles north-northeast of the high-income enclave, in a relatively unpopulated region. No serious damage or injuries were reported.

Salon Closes: Salon Forty Sixty Two in Blackhawk abruptly closed its doors on Monday. It was unclear whether the owners of the salon packed up or if the landlord of Blackhawk Plaza told them to move out. The closure is the most recent in a string of businesses to vacate the plaza. However, the landlord said a number of new businesses are opening in November.

Bright Future: Officials with the San Ramon Valley Unified School District dedicated a solar panel structure at Monte Vista High School on Monday. It is one of five such energy projects at schools in the district. Critics questioned the cost and viabililty of the project, but school officials said the solar projects will save the district millions of dollars over the next 25 years.
