Week in Review: Memorials, Veterans and Birthdays

Here are some of the stories that made news in Danville and Alamo this past week

Mother and daughter mourned: More than 100 people attended the funeralof Mahindokht Dowlati and her daughter, Elham Pirdavari. The two women were killed Monday afternoon when their vehicle was struck by another car as they were driving south on Brookside Drive in the road's intersection with Sycamore Valley Road.

Veterans honored: More than 200 people turned out for a Veterans Day commemoration at San Ramon Valley High School on Friday. There were speeches, video tributes and patriotic displays to honor the men and women who have served and are still serving in our nation's military.

A numerical birthday: A Danville girl celebrated a special birthday on Friday. Sasha Gaemi, a fifth grader at Tassajara Hills Elementary, turned 11 on 11-11-11. She was born on 11-11-00 and was called the "binary baby" by her family.

Football rivalry: Monte Vista High stunned San Ramon Valley High, 34-33, in their annual cross-town football rivalry Thursday night. Monte Vista won the game with a field goal with less than 10 seconds left.
