Trial Set for 2009 Teen Murder

Walter Bell, 20, is charged with shooting to death Danville teen Rylan Fuchs in 2009.

A Berkeley man will go on trial in December for the murder of a Danville teen more than two years ago.

A Contra Costa Superior Court judge this week set Dec. 5 as the trial date for 20-year-old Walter Bell, according to Contra Costa Deputy District Attorney Barry Grove.

Bell is charged in the Jan. 20, 2009 death of 17-year-old Rylan Fuchs in a shooting at the senior's family home in Danville.

Authorities say Bell was trying to rob Fuchs of marijuana when the shooting occurred. News reports at the time of the shooting said the teen was shot in the throat.

Bell has been in custody since his arrest shortly after the incident. He pleaded not guilty, saying the gunfire was accidental.
