San Ramon Valley wins big, Cal loses in the final seconds while Las Lomas advances

Here are some of the scores from tonight's high school football playoff action.

San Ramon Valley 42  Castro Valley 14

San Ramon Valley High advanced to the second round of the Division I playoffs with a 42-14 victory over Castro Valley High.

San Ramon Valley, the number seven seed, will face the number two seed James Logan High next Friday. Logan had a bye this week.

Castro Valley, the 10th seed, finishes the season with a 6-5 record.

San Ramon Valley jumped out to an early 14-0 lead in the first quarter. They broadened the margin to 28-0 at halftime.

However, Castro Valley fought back. The Trojans cut the lead to 28-14 in the third quarter.

San Ramon Valley pierced the end zone early in the fourth quarter to make it 35-14. The Wolves then iced the game with a late touchdown.

Freedom 29  California 28

Freedom High came from behind to oust California High from the Division I playoffs with a thrilling 29-28 win.

Freedom, the number eight seed, will face top seeded De La Salle High next Friday. The Spartans had a bye this week.

Cal High, the number nine seed, finishes the season at 7-4.

The Grizzlies started out well in this game. They led 21-7 at half.

However, Freedom scored a touchdown early in the third quarter to cut the margin to 21-13.

Cal answered with a score to make it 28-13, but Freedom came back again to cut the deficit to 28-19 in the fourth quarter.

The Falcons then scored 10 unanswered points to take a 29-28 lead with three minutes left in the game.

Cal had a shot at the end, but their 30-yard field goal attempt was blocked.

Windsor 45  Arroyo 23

Windsor High held off a pesky Arroyo High team to win its first round Division II playoff game, 45-23.

Windsor, the top seed, will play the winner of tomorrow's game pitting Clayton Valley High against Maria Carrillo High of Santa Rosa.

Arroyo, the 16th seed, finishes the season with a 5-5 record.

Windsor got off to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Dons hung tough, cutting the margin to 14-7 in the second period.

Windsor made it 28-14 in the third quarter, but Arroyo keep chipping away and got to within 35-23 in the final period before Windsor put the game away.

Las Lomas 27  Washington 6

Las Lomas High moved into the second round of the Division II playoffs by defeating Washington High, 27-6.

The Knights, the number two seed, will play the winner of tomorrow's Newark Memorial vs. Concord High game.

Washington, the division's 15th seed, finishes the season at 3-8.

Las Lomas scored first to take a 6-0 lead in the first quarter.

However, it was a defensive struggle throughout much of the game with the Knights leading by only a 20-6 margin early in the fourth quarter before cementing the win with a late touchdown.
