Got Recipes?

Do you have a favorite recipe that you'll be serving this holiday season? A family favorite, or something you've tried from a magazine? Do you brine? We're looking for ideas.

As we head into the holiday season, I find the checkout line at any grocery store is a very dangerous place.

Some people might be tempted to pick up the latest People or Us trumpeting the next big scoop in the Kim Kardashian wedding fall-out.

I have a hard time not loading up my shopping cart with the Thanksgiving and Christmas issues of Bon Appetit, Fine Cooking or Sunset. And, this year, you can pick up a special issue of classic recipes from Gourmet magazine.

And, even though I resisted buying food magazines off the rack, I came home to find that the November issue of the Oprah Winfrey magazine had some killer looking recipes for green beans and sweet potatoes.

Meanwhile, I'm considering the question of whether brining a turkey really results in a bird that is more tender, moist and flavorful. I tried it one year and I'm not so sure. But if you swear by soaking your bird overnight in salted, seasoned water, share your tips on how to best do it.

Anyway, got recipes? For Thanksgiving stuffing or Chrismas cookies? Got cooking tips for favorite dishes? Ever deep fried a turkey or attempted a buche de noel? Got ideas for sprucing up classics, like marshallow-covered sweet potatoes?

Share!

Email us with recipes and photos and we'll post them on Danville Patch starting now and through the end of December. You can reach me at rossmartha@att.net. Please, if the recipe comes from a magazine or website, let us know who to credit.

And most definitely, feel free to share recipes for alternatives to the usual holiday suspects. Maybe you're vegetarian or have to opt for a gluten-free diet.

I can definitely say I don't think I ever need to eat another slice of pumpkin pie again in my lifetime. Sacrilege! The Bon Appetit I peeked at had a pear-upside cake that looked festive, seasonal and delicious.
