Danville Man Pleads Guilty To Mother's Murder

Andrew Mantas, 21, is found legally insane by a judge in the killing of his mother five years ago.

A 21-year-old Danville man could spend the rest of his life in a mental institution after admitting he killed his mother, according to the Contra Costa Times.

A judge has ruled that Andrew Mantas was legally insane when he used a baseball bat to beat his mother to death nearly five years ago.

Mantas pleaded guilty to murder charges on Monday afternoon in the courtroom of Contra Costa County Superior Court Judge Brian Haynes.

He admitted he killed his mother Dimitra Mantas with an aluminum bat at her home in November 2006 when he was 16.

With his attorney Daniel Horowitz beside him, Mantas then pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity and waived a jury trial, allowing Haynes to make the determination, according to The Times.
