You Gotta Eat This Pita

This isn't another dry, flavorless chicken pita sprinkled with feta cheese.

The downtown Danville counter-service pita place, 'Gotta Eatta Pita' opened its doors Nov. 29, much to the delight of the locals.

And there's good reason. It's straight-forward, tasty and everything is made in-house -- even the fluffy pitas.

If you're unfamiliar with the likes of falafel, hummus or skhug, don't feel awkward. Chances are you'll be offered a taste the moment you walk in the door.

The small eatery has a small menu, which it executes thoughtfully. Guests can stuff a pita or a bowl with falafel, chicken or couscous, to name a few. Pickles, tabbouleh, purple cabbage, roasted eggplant and creamy tahini add crunch and flavor to the mix.

Try the chicken. It's marinated for 24 hours so it's succulent and flavorful. It's also free-range, without any added hormones or antibiotics, which makes your $6.95 meal a steal.

Business has been good and growing by word of mouth since November, said co-founder Eric Huber.

Craft beer from Walnut Creek's Califcraft Brewing Co. and 21st Amendment Brewery are on draft at a reasonable price, and outdoor seating is available.

They also cater fresh Mediterranean platters.

Gotta Eatta Pita is located at 110 Hartz Ave. in Danville.
