In the Market for a Brand New Home

When only new will do ...

New homes aren’t plentiful in every town, but having a brand new home is very appealing to many people and there will always be a market for them.

In fact, the subject of new homes came up on Saturday in Wisconsin. I was there for a wedding, chatting with Judy Blazin, a resident of Castro Valley who would like to move to San Ramon. 

Blazin said, “I want a new home, never lived in by anyone.”

Judy also prefers a single story. Newer and single level are both qualities that demand a higher price per square foot — and may therefore be better investments. Although nothing stays new forever, of course.

If you are in the market for a new home, here are some communities for you to consider:


375 Golden Grass Dr. is a newly built home offered by Davidon. Priced at $1,650,490, this is a 4 bedroom, 4.5 bath, 4,200 square foot home on a .43 acre lot located in Alamo Crest, the new neighborhood directly across from . Alamo Crest is an enclave of 39 homes; all but six are now spoken for (with 26 currently lived in). New home construction is rare in Alamo, so buyers wanting both Alamo and a brand new home are attracted to this community. Visit the property website. Warren told me that sales have been strong lately — a slow start to the year, with the first sale in March and the next in May, but six sales in the last seven weeks.


2 Tamalark Lane is offered by Mary Robbins and Mary Anne LaHaye of Empire Realty. One of 6 homes in a private enclave of custom-built homes called Tamalark Estates, this is a 5 bedroom, 4.5 bath craftsman style home with 3,879 square feet on a .4 acre lot, priced at $1,575,000. San Ramon
