Today marks a successful end to the 30-Day Danville Area Sustainable Business Challenge hosted by Discover Danville, Sustainable Danville Area, the Danville Area Chamber of Commerce and Shop Danville First.
Every business day in March, the Danville Area Sustainable Business Council ‘signed-on’ another local business to get sustainable.
From retailers and restaurants to remodelers, insurance, doctors and schools, our local businesses stepped up to show they care about sustaining our community.
And that only counts the businesses that completed a minimum of 25 measures to save energy, water, reducing waste and preventing pollution in their day-to-day business operations.
Currently there are another five pledged businesses working on completing the Danville Area Sustainable Business checklist—and two of those registered just this week.
Businesses continue to join the Danville Area Sustainable Business program, meeting a growing interest among residents to shop and do business with companies that care about protecting our environment and helping our families thrive. Come mid-April, you’ll begin to see the Danville Area Sustainable Business logo in businesses windows around town.
Come out and celebrate the efforts of our twenty four forerunners at Spring Fling events throughout the month of April.
Beginning this weekend, Danville Area Sustainable businesses will offer eco-friendly activities every Thursday and Saturday at locations all over town.
Activities have been planned to entice the curiosity of 'young and younger' with bike-to-lunch specials, solar cooking demos, decorating with eco-friendly items, tips on green building (check out the Green Dog House from Gayler Construction at Rakestraw Books), composting and the wonderful world of worms, edible gardening, eco-fashions, recycled art projects, music and other activities.
Spring Fling starts this Saturday with Bike-to-Lunch specials at Jules Thin Crust, La Boulange and Norm's Place. Get into the Easter holiday spirit with a Paper maché eggs demo at Cottage Jewel and learn about Eco-decorating at Design on the Line 11-2pm or Eco-furnishing at Design Elements at 1:30.
On Thursday, April 7th you'll find Concierge services and maps sponsored by Danville Chocolates with music by ‘A Positive Spin’. Stores are open late starting Thursday. Check out the Re-design & repair jewelry demo at Cottage Jewel.
You’ll find a full calendar on the Discover Danville website.
You can support our local sustainable businesses by shopping Danville First. To make it easy to find local sustainable businesses we have created the Danville Area Sustainable Business Directory that will continue to grow as new businesses join the program.
And remember, more and more businesses sign on to become a Danville Area Sustainable Business everyday. Look for the Danville Area Sustainable Business logo where you shop and do business.
