Internet Cat Video Festival in Walnut Creek

I CAN HAZ FILM FEST?!

By Jane McInnis

Admit it: We've all sat alone at a computer giggling at cat videos on YouTube. This Saturday, join like-minded folks in the Bay area for the 2013 Internet Cat Video Festival!

The Walker Art Center's Internet Cat Video Festival will make its 2013 West Coast premier at Heather Farm Park in Walnut Creek.

The fest will be hosted by the county-based Community Concern for Cats.

While 75 minutes of feline footage may sound excessive (or exciting) to many, it's no surprise: there's no denying cats are the dominant species online.

"Cats have very expressive facial and body expressions, so they are a perfect canvas for human emotion, which makes them awesome for captioning and anthropomorphization," says Ben Huh, CEO of The Cheezburger Network in a Mashable article by Amy-Mae Elliott.

This festival was organized by Ann Fox, a volunteer at Community Concern For Cats. She read about last year's festival and wanted to bring the event to the Bay to benefit animal shelters in the area.

This will be the first event that will help benefit the Community Concern for Cats, which has bottle-fed and rescued feral cats for 26 years in Costra County.

Vendors, cat art and cat adoption information will start running at 3 p.m., with the film showing at 7:30 p.m. on Sept 7.

The event is all ages. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children 3-12, and children under 3 are free.
