Free Workshops for Kid Builders and Crafters

We know everyone likes a good deal, so we decided to find five great deals for families each week. This week we're focusing on places where kids can build it and craft it for free or nearly free.

Do you have a budding builder or a creative crafter at home? Try one of these budget friendly ideas nearby to nurture their tinkering tendencies.

1. The place: The Home Depot

2750 Crow Canyon Rd., San Ramon

The deal: On the first Saturday of each month, every Home Depot offers a free Kids' How-To Workshop from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., designed for kids aged 5-12 years old. The workshops teach tool safety and do-it-yourself skills. Participants also receive a free orange Home Depot kids' apron.

2. The place: Michaels' Craft Store

7890 Dublin Blvd, Dublin

The deal: Michaels' The Knack club offers crafting activities throughout the month for kids 3 years old and older. Many workshops are free during the month, and some require a purchase. Check the latest events listing for current workshops.

3. The place: All in the Kiln Ceramics Studio

1950 Mt. Diablo Blvd.,Walnut Creek

The deal: Every Tuesday, kids paint for free. Every Monday from 3-6 p.m. anyone wearing pajamas doesn't pay a studio fee. They also offer seasonal art camps.

4. The Place: Lakeshore Learning Store

The deal: Each Saturday the store hosts a free kids' craft workshop from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For a list of their upcoming classes, click here

5. The Place: Lowe's

3750 Dublin Boulevard, Dublin

The deal: Each Saturday the stores host a free Build and Grow Clinic at 10 a.m., guiding children through a wooden project designed for ages 3 years and older.
