Former Danville Mayor Beverly Lane will speak at the Museum of the San Ramon Valley on Saturday, July 9, 2011,  at 10:30 am and talk about the history of women’s rights in California.  She will examine what was called the “Cult of True Womanhood” in the 19th century and the “Feminine Mystique” in the 20th Century, and the movements which addressed these concepts.

Ms. Lane has lived in Danville since 1973, served on the first Danville Town Council from 1982 to 1993, and was Mayor three times. She is currently President of the East Bay Regional Park District’s Board of Directors. A historian, she is the author of two books and curator for the Museum of the San Ramon Valley.

The current Museum exhibit is Remember the Ladies, Celebrating the Centennial of California Woman Suffrage, 1911-2011.  The exhibit ends July 16th and is open to the public Tuesday-Friday 1-4, and Saturday 10-1. The Museum of the San Ramon Valley (in the Danville Train Depot) is located at 205 Railroad Avenue, Danville.  For more information go to www.museumsrv.org
