Danville Performers Tackle Issue of Bullies in 'No Bullies Allowed'

FUNKMODE performers want to help people band together to eliminate bullying. Performances begin in June.

Local performance company FUNKMODE has created a family friendly and completely original live stage show titled "No Bullies Allowed", which will be showing at the Village Theater from June 6-8, 2014.

Conceptualized and produced by youth educators, this show will explore common bullying scenarios and present practical solutions to each featured challenge.

Youth ages 3-17 will take the stage with professional FUNKMODE performers in a musical featuring acting, music, dancing, spoken word poetry, video presentations and even comedy to provide appropriate levity to a difficult subject.

As FUNKMODE is known primarily for its work in the Hip Hop genre, the show will feature 10 original and professionally produced Hip Hop songs, covering topics from finding one's personal power in the face of opposition to using music and dancing as a means to escape negativity.

These songs will be accompanied by 10 fully choreographed Hip Hop dance pieces showcasing the talents of FUNKMODE's youth performers. Few issues present a greater challenge to our youth today than bullying.

Government statistics tell us that over 70% of young people have witnessed bullying at their schools, while 30% admit to bullying others and 160,000 teenagers across our nation skip school every day because of bullying.

FUNKMODE director Cara Young notes, "2014 marks FUNKMODE's 10th anniversary of serving our community through music, dance and entertainment. For this show, we want to create a performance which promises to be not only entertaining, but educational for all. We know this is a serious problem for our kids and they need to know we are on their side. We want to help people band together to work towards the elimination of bullying."
