Community Corner

Southeast Asia Through the Eyes of Danville High School Students

Over spring break, 11 students from Athenian High ditched traditional activities and opted to study the cultures of Cambodia and Vietnam.

An exhibit that takes a compelling look at life in Cambodia and Vietnam through the eyes of 11 Athenian High School students in Danville will open at Village Theatre next month.

The exhibit, Perspectives; Life in Cambodia and Vietnam, will open Oct. 11 and run through Nov. 9.

The exhibit will reflect upon the images captured during a “spring break intensive” that students elected to go on during the traditional spring break.

The work will be for sale, and a portion of the profit will be given to one of the schools the students visited, Sala Phum Pheak Bourn Primary School in Cambodia.

This exhibit and other related programs, aim to engage the Danville community, educate the audience about life in Cambodia and Vietnam, and bring Athenian’s community into the Village Theatre Art Gallery.

The opening reception will take place on Oct. 11, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Attendees’ will have the opportunity to listen to students talk about their trip during the curator talk at 7 p.m. T

here is also a Young @ Art program scheduled for November 8, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Pre-registration is required to attend.
