Porky Fig Sandwich: Figgin' Fantastic

Slow G's seasonal sandwich will last as long as the figs are fresh.

By Jane McInnis

To celebrate its second anniversary in August, Slow G's Eatery on Diablo Road introduced a seasonal special: the Porky Fig sandwich.

The surprisingly light sandwich is served on a crunchy ciabatta roll with thinly sliced pork loin, figs, fresh spring mix, red onions, dijon mustard and 'mayno' (the eatery's healthy version of mayo).

Keeping with Slow G's ethos of cutting sugar, sodium, unhealthy fat and all kinds of chemicals found in typical cold-cuts, the pork in the Porky Fig sandwich won't leave you feeling heavy. The pork loin is slow-cooked, so it has a clean taste that compliments the zing of the figs and dijon mustard.

When Patch caught up with owner Gary Ramponi, he said business had been going well. The eatery's hours were extended because of increased demand, and he added new Mediterranean sandwiches and quinoa salads to the menu. There's also some gluten-free options on the menu.

But seriously, before the fig season runs dry, get a Porky Fig sandwich for lunch. It's the most refreshing pork sandwich you'll have.
