The Danville Planning Commission gave its endorsement to the SummerHill home development plan, which will build 66 homes near Diablo Road, on Tuesday.

Readers who commented said they did want to see homes in the area. D. Mom said, "NO! There are enough houses in Danville. Purchase the homes that are for sale if you want to move to Danville."

Proposed Downtown Banners Would Honor Danville Veterans

Thanks to an effort spearheaded by Mark Marcotte, Danville is considering hanging 43 banners on light poles downtown, with each banner honoring a different veteran connected to Danville. The 30-inch by 50-inch banners will say, "The Town of Danville Honors," then the name and rank of the veteran, their military branch and where they served.

Man Convicted of Killing Danville Teen Rylan Fuchs

A 22-year-old man was convicted Monday for the death Rylan Fuchs, 17, who was shot and killed outside his El Capitan Drive home in Danville in 2009. It took the jury just 40 minutes of delibirations to convict Walter Bell of Berkeley, the Contra Costa Times reports.

Since the conviction includes murder enhancements for using a gun and committing the killing in the act of a robbery, Bell faces a state-mandated life sentence without the possibility of parole. He is planned to be sentenced June 21.

Youngstrom Among 321 Fallen Law Officers Honored

The name of slain California Highway Patrol officer Kenyon Youngstrom has been freshly etched into one of two marble walls that make up the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C.

The names of more than 19,000 officers who have been killed in the line of duty are etched on those walls. This year, 321 were added.
