The National Weather Service reports that a funnel cloud was spotted in eastern Contra Costa County this afternoon during a thunderstorm that triggered tornado warnings for Sacramento and other central California counties.

The cloud was spotted around 3:10 p.m. but dissipated quickly without touching the ground, according to weather service forecaster Diana Henderson.

Hail and thunderstorms were reported elsewhere in the Bay Area and funnel clouds were also reported in areas to the east including Roseville and Willows, according to weather service reports.

The tornado warnings for the central valley area expired at 7 p.m.
