Danville's Team Harmony Running in San Francisco Nike Women's Half-Marathon Race Sunday

For seven straight years, a group of mostly Danville women have come together to have fun training for the Nike Half-Marathon race.

In 2005, a group of Danville women wanted a change of pace from the usual ladies activities of bunco nights and lunch and shopping.

They decided to set a goal of running in the San Francisco Nike Half-Marathon race — and they did.

Seven years later the team, Team Harmony, has stuck together running the 13 miles every fall and will do so again this Sunday.

It's fun, but Team Harmony takes it seriously too, beginning in mid-August they train by running a scenic 6-mile loop in Blackhawk to get ready for the San Francisco Run.

The team members are given roles too. Some important to getting ready for the race and some important to having fun:

"For most of our team members it’s a social group that happens to be running," Team Harmony member Mindy Rosso said. "Only a few were avid runners to begin with. It has provided much fun, camaraderie, support and inspiration. A weekend in the city with girlfriends and of course the finisher’s necklace are real plusses!"

The Team Harmony members are: Naomi Rivas, Kirsten Vogeley, Jill Fissel, Angie Smith, Mardel Overly, Tiffanie Lewis, Mindy Gaemi, DeAnne Garrehy, Rachel Goldblatt, Kathy Brillheart, Sandra Thornton, Patty Seay, Karen Harrison, Lisa Sims, Christie Kretz, Kim Smoot, Karen Ruttke.
