$10k awarded to San Ramon Valley Traffic Safety Program

A traffic safety group geared towards addressing the safety of cyclists, drivers and pedestrians in San Ramon Valley will launch programs scheduled for the new school year on Thursday.

The San Ramon Valley Street Smarts Program, made up of Danville, San Ramon, Contra Costa County and the San Ramon School District, will hold the event Sept. 26 in the Veterans Memorial Building, at 400 Hartz Avenue in Danville at 1:30 p.m.. 

The event will feature a cycling instructor who'll touch on the importance of wearing a helmet.

In addition, four winning ads created by local high school students will be showcased.

The program was rewarded $10,000 in grants from State Farm, which will be formerly presented on Thursday.
