Fire Hydrant Break - San Ramon

At about 11:40 am, a fire hydrant was completely sheared off on San Ramon Valley Blvd., on the east side, just north of Crow Canyon Rd. Fire crews eventually found the correct shut off valve beneath the street and turned off the water.

Is it safe to assume that someone hit it with their truck or car? Any follow up to this story? What a shame that so much water was wasted given our current drought situation.
