Assistance League of Diablo Valley's Assisteens Exceed Previous Years' Annual Fashion Shows While Serving Tea!

An auxiliary of Assistance League® of Diablo Valley, Assisteens® attracts students in grades seven through twelve who want to improve the lives of children and seniors in the Contra Costa community by raising funds and implementing philanthropic programs on their behalf, as well as supporting Assistance League’s programs.  Their primary fundraiser is their Annual Spring Fashion Show, when members model clothes, shoes, and accessories they have selected from the Way Side Inn Thrift Shop, the chapter’s primary fundraiser, which is located in Lafayette.  In addition, the eight seniors delighted the audience by ending the show modeling their own senior prom gowns and tuxedos. Those who’ve attended previous fashion shows agree that the models were discerning, yet delightfully frugal with their selections.

This special event was held Sunday afternoon, May 4 at the Walnut Creek Community Resource Center®. To enhance the event, a tea was included this year with appropriate savories and sweets served by Assisteens. More than 25 opportunity baskets were filled with donated items and gift certificates, and silent auction items were added, including a handmade A’s quilt valued at $400, golf for four at Boundary Oak Golf Club, A’s baseball tickets, Jazzercise and Target gift certificates.

Fundraising Chairman, Hailey Woram reported, “It was awesome and tons of fun to put on. Assisteens love being able to show off these outfits and to share our achievements with our guests. It was a great way to close such a successful year.”
