No-Hitter Propels Tri-Valley Babe Ruth 13YO All-Stars to Pacific SW Regionals

The Tri-Valley Babe Ruth 13YO All-Star team defeated Bel Mateo last night 6-1 in Woodland, California to advance to the Babe Ruth Pacific Southwest regional championships in Surprise, Arizona.  James Cowick hurled a no-hitter for TVBR striking out 8.  Cowick also added two singles at the plate. Darroch Koel went 2-3 with a walk, two doubles and 3 runs. Saiki Roy doubled twice with an RBI. 

TVBR trailed 1-0 entering the bottom of the 3rd when Koel doubled and scored on a clutch two-out single by Dante Albanese.  Leading 2-1 entering the 5th, Max Moore led off with a pinch-hit single, Koel walked, Jack Morgan reached on an error, Albanese walked, then, Jack Maloon continued his clutch hitting by knocking in a pair with a line drive single to center.  TVBR added a run in the 6th with a mammoth double by Koel and an RBI single by Morgan.

Overall in the tourney, Koel was 8-16 with 7 runs, 3 RBIs and 5 doubles, Roy was 8-14-4-9 with 4 doubles, Maloon was 5-16-1-7, Morgan was 4-12-6-3, Cowick was 5-11-3-2 Albanese 3-5-2-3 with a triple, Ryan Bowman 3-8-3-1 and Nick Venezia 3-8-3-1.  TVBR pitchers Cowick, Josh Ott, Koel, Bowman and Maloon combined for a 1.50 ERA with 27 strikouts.

TVBR advances to Surprise, Arizona where they will open against Northern Utah at 5:30PM on Tuesday July 31st.
