SRVUSD Will Host Community Forums on Bond Measure
The first forum is slated for Thursday at Cal High at 7 p.m.
In an open letter posted on the San Ramon Valley Unified School District website last week, Superintendent Steven Enoch announced there will be four forums in the coming weeks to hear from the community on the possibility of having a facilities bond on the June ballot.
The board met in November and put together a $238 million wish list of school building improvements. They include: modernizing six elementary schools, renovating Stone Valley Middle School, and upgrading the science building at California High School.
To gauge community support for the measure, the board has already approved a phone survey of 600 random residents. Those results are expected to be presented at the board's Jan. 24 meeting.
An exploratory committee, consisting of parents and community members, has also been setup and will make the a recommendation to the board if there should be an election. The committee is hosting the forums, and feedback from the community will play a role in their recommendation to the board.
"While there is no doubt (at least in my mind) that we need the final phase of major modernization to be completed, as well as new facilities for growth and class size reduction protection, we need the "collective wisdom of crowds" to determine when and if this election should be held and what facility projects should be incorporated," Enoch wrote in his letter.
Here are the locations and times of the four forums:
- California High School — Thursday, Jan. 19 — 7 p.m.
- San Ramon Valley High School — Monday, Jan. 23 — 7 p.m.
- Monte Vista High School — Thursday, Feb. 2 — 7 p.m.
- Dougherty Valley High School – Wednesday, Feb. 8th – 7 p.m.

Does anyone believe that facilities issues are what make the SRVSD 2nd rate vs global competitors? Why don't we hear a plan to raise performance to global best standards?
Has the district considered spinning off facilities or using bond money to be used in a voucher or charter. environment?
We will get better school performance by creating competitive alternatives to the union dominated system we have today. The system needs "Creative Destruction".
The last thing we should be doing is investing more in a system with no prospects for drastic change.
