UPDATE: Coast Guard Search for San Ramon Fisherman Suspended

The Coast Guard has suspended its search for Shau Tsu Wong, a 64-year-old San Ramon man, with no plans to restart it.

Updated Saturday, 1 p.m.

The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended its search for Shau Tsu Wong, 64, the missing San Ramon crab fisherman, whose boat capsized near Pigeon Point south of Half Moon Bay.

The search was suspended at 8:45 p.m. Friday night, Coast Guard officer Liezl Nicholas said. There are no plans to restart the search.

Wong's boat was found around 9:30 a.m. Friday morning.

Wong was first reported missing when the Coast Guard received a call at 11:56 p.m. Thursday from Wong's son. It's believed Wong departed from Pillar Point Harbor near Half Moon Bay on Wednesday, Coast Guard officer Pamela Boehland said.

Wong's son said that his father did not usually take night trips on his boat, a white 18-foot vessel with a red stripe on it and two outboard engines. Wong's truck and trailer were found at Pillar Harbor.

"Conditions on the water have been pretty nice the last couple days," Coast Gaurd offiicer Mark Leahey said. "We're not sure what happened."

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Wong is asked to call the Coast Guard at (415) 399-3530.

Poor guy. I wonder how much sea-faring experience he had. Going out into the open ocean at night in a 19 foot boat is very risky and dangerous. I went on a commercial fishing trip once in that same area. It was nice and sunny on shore, but when we got a mile out, the waves were about 10' tall, and everyone got sea sick.
