Harmer Reportedly Concedes Defeat In Congressional Election
Rep. Jerry McNerney's office says the San Ramon Republican called the congressman today to congratulate him on winning the Nov. 2 election.
Republican challenger David Harmer reportedly has conceded defeat in his bid to unseat Rep. Jerry McNerney in the 11th Congressional District race.
McNerney's office said Friday afternoon that Harmer called the congressman earlier in the day and congratulated him on winning the Nov. 2 election.
There has been no public comment from the Harmer campaign.
The final vote total from all four counties in the district shows McNerney with 115,361 votes compared with Harmer's 112,703, a margin of 2,658 votes. McNerney finished with 48 percent of the vote. Harmer had 46.9 percent.
American Independent Party candidate David Christensen tallied 12,439 votes or 5.1 percent.
Harmer told the Contra Costa Times on Thursday he wanted to review the county-by-county tabulations before deciding whether to ask for a recount.
