Firefighters, Vets and Others Bowl for a Good Cause
San Ramon Valley Firefighters put on the 2nd annual charity event at Danville Bowl Saturday night.
Crowds flocked to Danville Bowl Saturday night to support a worthy cause—the restoration and remodeling to the Danville Veterans Memorial Building.
People of all ages and skill levels bowled and participated in a raffle for prizes such as a Pablo Sandoval autographed picture, bouquets, gift baskets, and commemorative photos, all to raise $25,000 to $30,000 for the project in downtown Danville.
The event was sponosed by the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District.
Plans for the the building on Hartz Avenue include demolishing the community hall and rear parking area to make room for a bigger two story space that will include a senior center and a new plaza. The total size of the building will double from 6,300 to 12,792 square feet.
In addition to the structural improvements, new job counseling programs and a Veterans Resource Center will be added to help Veterans gain access to local and federal programs.
The cost is roughly $7 million with the town funding $5 million with the rest raised through fund-raisers.
"The point of this fundraiser is to not only raise money for the Veterans Memorial Building, but to also raise awareness to the need for the rest of this money," said firefighter Jonas Aguiar.
