UPDATE: Danville Woman Arrested for Leaving Kids in Car at Mall Identified

Police arrested Amanda Nejat, 46, of Danville Wednesday around 4:15 p.m. at Stoneridge Mall on charges of felony child endangerment.

 

Pleasanton police arrested a Danville woman Wednesday afternoon after she left a toddler and a baby inside her locked car while she was shopping at Stoneridge Mall.

Police confirmed Thursday afternoon that the woman arrested was Amanda Nejat, 46. The arrest happened around 6:15 p.m. They could not say whether her car was outside in the parking lot, or in the Nordstrom parking structure.

She was arrested on suspicion of felony child endangerment. The children were reportedly inside the vehicle for almost an hour.

I am sure she gave the officers some excuse why she did it. The bottom line it should have never have happened.

Tena - We added that after Carmila's comment. We usually try to label the story as "update" when that happens but it's definitely confusing sometimes.

Can you be arrested if you put your children in their crib at home and are in a room or otherwise can't hear them crying for 40 minutes?

Is the concern that someone might happen by the car; see the kids, break in and kidnap them? What if the kids were in a crib next to a home window that could be seen from a public area?

I'm not sure that this is any business of the public, or even rises to the level of bad parenting. Maybe....but really getting arrested?

Sam: Is there a difference between putting babies in a crib in their room in your house and leaving babies in a car parked in a mall parking lot for upwards of 40 minutes? You don't see a difference there?
