Beat the 4th of July Parade Congestion with Your Bike

Sustainable Danville Area will have portable bike racks downtown tomorrow for the parade. The racks were built by a local Boy Scout troop and will hold 200 bikes.

The streets will be packed for the parade on Wednesday and alternative transportation might be ideal.

So, if you're riding your bike, Sustainable Danville Area is providing complimentary bike parking from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., during the parade.

The portable bike racks will hold 200 bikes and were made by a local Boy Scout troop, led by Eagle Scout Jonathan Adams. SDA will check in your bike in an enclosed area, located at 675 Hartz Ave. (enter at School Street), and watch over them during the parade. Be sure to bring your own bike lock, though.

"SDA is doing this as part of their sustainability goals, helping residents lead a healthier lifestyle and reducing traffic and parking congestion," said Darlene Gayler, a co-founder of SDA.
