Autopsy Shows Man Who Fell From SUV Was Run Over
Justin De Young, a 2009 SRVHS grad, was killed when he fell from a moving SUV near Del Amigo and Glenn Roads in Danville.
Justin De Young, the Alamo man who died Sunday night after falling from a moving SUV, suffered head injuries and was run over by the vehicle, according to autopsy results released today by the Contra Costa County coroner's office.
Danville Police Chief Steve Simpkins said the coroner's findings confirm the department's investigative findings.
The autopsy found that De Young died from head injuries and blunt force trauma from falling from a moving vehicle and being run over, said Contra Costa County Sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee.
De Young, a 19-year-old 2009 San Ramon Valley High graduate, was standing near the intersection of Del Amigo and Glen Roads just before midnight Sunday when a Toyota Sequoia filled with several of his friends pulled up to him, Danville Police Chief Steve Simpkins said.
Friends told De Young where they were going so he could meet them there, and the Sequoia began to pull away. De Young then apparently decided at the last minute to try to jump onto the side of the SUV and ride along with it but fell, Simpkins said.
The driver called 911, and paramedics pronounced De Young dead at the scene.
Police said it does not appear that drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident. Toxicology tests on De Young are pending and results will be available in several weeks, said Lee.
A celebration of Justin De Young's life is scheduled for Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, 1550 Diablo Road, in Danville.
