All The Votes Are In; McNerney Wins By 2,658
Contra Costa County finishes counting its ballots Tuesday. No word yet from the Harmer campaign.
The ballots all have been officially counted in the 11th Congressional District election.
The semi-official results give Democratic Congressman Jerry McNerney a 2,658 vote victory over his Republican challenger, David Harmer.
The Secretary of State's website lists McNerney with 115,361 votes compared with Harmer's 112,703 votes. American Independent Party candidate David Christensen garnered 12,439 votes.
McNerney, a Pleasanton resident, received 48 percent of the vote. Harmer got 46.9 percent while Christensen took in 5.1 percent.
"These latest results confirm what we already knew, Congressman McNerney has won a third term," said Sarah Hersh, a campaign spokeswoman. "He is honored to have the opportunity to represent the people of this district again."
Harmer campaign officials have not returned repeated phone calls for comment. It appears the San Ramon attorney has only two choices, concede defeat or ask for a recount. Harmer sent out a group e-mail two weeks ago, asking for donations to a recount fund.
The election numbers were updated at midday Tuesday after Contra Costa County officials finished their tally of provisional ballots in the morning.
San Joaquin, Alameda and Santa Clara counties finished their count last week.
The Secretary of State's office has until Friday to certify the election.
McNerney aides said the congressman is in Washington D.C., preparing to represent his district for a third term.
