$5.8 Million Construction Contract Approved For Vets Building Renovation
Hayward company Zovich & Sons' bid was approved at Tuesday night's council meeting. The council also gave final approval to the poultry ordinance Tuesday.
A $5.8 million construction contract has been awarded for the renovation of Danville's Veterans Memorial Building.
The town council Tuesday night unanimously approved a bid from Zovich & Sons Inc. of Hayward for the project.
The proposal was the lowest of 11 bids sent in by building contractors.
Construction is scheduled to begin next month and last for 18 months.
The new veterans building will be a 13,000-square-foot facility that will replace the existing 6,300-square-foot complex. The two-story portion of the 85-year-old building will be preserved and renovated. The one-story auditorium will be demolished and replaced by a facility that includes a community hall, classroom, meeting room and office space for the town's seniors programs.
In April, the council approved a $32,000 contract with Janus Corporation to remove hazardous materials from the facility. Janus is expected to finish its work this month. Their crews are removing asbestos, lead-containing paint, PCB-containing light ballasts and mercury-containing light tubes and electrical switches.
In other action, the council also approved $20,000 to hire a consultant to prepare a detailed financial analysis of a proposal to annex six neighborhoods east of Danville's towns limits. Those subdivisions are Monterosso, Wendt Ranch, Willow Common, Alamo Creek, Shadow Creek and Bettencourt Ranch.
By 3-2 vote, the council also gave final approval to the new town ordinance that bans roosters and limits the number of chickens a homeowner can have on residential property.
